Some recent favorites: Hackers & Painters and Hard-boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.
One thing I learned the most from in university was not a class, but an open-source community! I enjoyed participating in OpenMined, which builds open-source code for privacy-preserving deep learning.
Can the limited compute power of a Raspberry Pi Zero handle a convolutional neural net to do facial authentication for a large database of users? I made that answer be yes. Check out my GitHub repo here and stay tuned for a live demo endpoint on this site (on the backlog).
Some of my favorite university courses were Advanced Cybersecurity, Bioinformatics, and Machine Learning Tools. They each used a good textbook and allowed project freedom.
